Sandy M. Grand Marshal 2024

This year’s Grand Marshal is a stranger to no one in McIntosh County! Sandy McDonald has been a permanent resident of McIntosh County since 1972. She was a Bicentennial Honor Graduate from McIntosh County Academy in 1976. She has instilled her love of her home to her three children: Daniel Pearson, Zach McDonald, and Langley Ryals. Sandy also has several grandchildren and is excitedly awaiting the birth of her first great-grandchild in July.

Even though Sandy retired from the Department of Family and Children Services in 2006, she remains actively involved in many facets of her community. She currently serves as District 4’s School Board Member and has for the last eight years. Sandy has also worked with the McIntosh County schools for decades in roles including room parent, School Counsel, Band and Athletic Booster, and in wherever role she was needed.

She also chairs the McIntosh County’s Empty Stocking Fund, which assists children each year at Christmas, and has worked with the organization for the last 35-plus years. Additionally, Sandy is a member of McIntosh County’s Family Connections as well as the Sapelo Saltwater Fishing Club. She attends Andrews Episcopal Church in Darien.

Sandy is a helping hand to her community members. You have seen her at countless events performing good deeds, and being the “Worker Bee” she is. From taking those in need to doctors’ appointments, to taking up money at the gate of a charity event, you have run into Sandy. It is for all these reasons, as well as her involvement with FOSB dating back to 2013, that Sandy McDonald is the 2024 Grand Marshal for the Shellman Bluff St. Patrick’s Day Parade.
